Ethan Iverson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ethan Iverson is a pianist and composer best known for his work in the post-modern piano trio, The Bad Plus, with bassist Reid Anderson and drummer Dave King. However, he is a prominent figure in both classical and jazz circles, having been the musical director of the Mark Morris Dance Group, a contributor to Down Beat magazine, and a student of both Fred Hersch and Sophia Rosoff. Iverson performs in many different groups and in a variety of stylistic incarnations. He has collaborated with artists such as Dave Douglas, Bill McHenry, Dewey Redman, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Billy Hart, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, and Yo-Yo Ma. Iverson's afternoon with Ornette Coleman, one of the founding fathers of free jazz, is amusingly detailed in The Bad Plus's weblog, Do The Math.
