[edit] Welcome
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! - UtherSRG (talk) 20:52, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Primates
[edit] gibbon
I've reverted your change to the classification list. All of the primate articles, via WP:PRIM, are following Groves' Primates section in Mammal Species of the World, 3rd ed, due to be published in a couple of months. Where did you get your listing from? - UtherSRG (talk) 21:06, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
- Oooh! Wonderful! We need more knowledgable and connected folks like you. I'm just an amateur primatologist, but a rather geeky one at that. *lol* I'll restore your edit and also transfer the info to the Wikispecies gibbon pages. Cheers! (And yes, replying on my talk or on yours is perfectly fine.) - UtherSRG (talk) 20:23, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Groves has published with Mootnick that the Hoolock Gibbon is not related to Bunopithecus sericus and has moved it to a new genus, the blandly named Hoolock. He's also elevated the two subspecies. - UtherSRG (talk) 13:42, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, good. I was waiting for that to come out before changing it here. Though wikipedia is under the radar of most systematists, didn't want to steal their thunder! Estelahe 14:46, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

- Taxonomically, no. Phylogenetically? If you haven't seen the most recent phylogeny, it's worth checking out. Right now I'm in the middle of writing up a phylogeny of my own. Other manuscripts I'm working up probably wouldn't be of much interest to you (they're mostly intraspecific studies and probably won't include taxonomic revisions).

[edit] hybridization in primates
An anonymous user has added a new section to the Primate article: Primate#Primate hybrids. The section includes some information on gibbon hybridization. Can you verify any of this section? - UtherSRG (talk) 11:50, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing it out. I've edited that information and can verify it's correct - I can add references if you think it necessary. - Estelahe 20:35, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
