Estreleira
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The estreleira is the flag used by Galician nationalists.
This flag, a blue band on a white background with a red star in the middle is commonly used by left-wing galician nationalists. Its use has increased in Galicia because of the increase of nationalism in recent years. The red star was created by communist militants of the UPG (Unión do Povo Galego) in the 1960s, correlating the red star to the stars in the flags of many socialist countries, in particular Yugoslavia.
All the left-wing political parties of Galicia (Nos-UP, FPG, BNG...) use the flag as a symbol of the Galician nation, and the BNG shows it in its logo. People use it in popular public demonstrations as a vindication.
It doesn't have exact size, and the red star in the middle sometimes goes aligned with the blue band. Other examples of nationalist flags with stars are the Catalan (estelada) and the Occitan flag[1].
