Estonian Air Force
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Estonian Air Force (Estonian: Eesti Õhuvägi) is the air force of Estonia. The EAF's history goes back to November 21, 1918, when a flight unit was organized in the newly independent state. At its height, in the 1930s, the Estonian Air Force had over 130 aircraft. During the Soviet and German occupations, the EAF was cancelled. The Estonian Air Force was re-established on December 16, 1991, after Estonia had again gained independence from the Soviet Union.
Today, the EAF mainly has transport and trainer aircraft and the fighter air defence is provided by NATO air forces on a rotating schedule (see Baltic Air Policing).
