From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Esther Roth-Shachamarov (born 1952) is an Israeli track and field runner. She specialized in the 100-meter hurdles and the 100-meter sprint.
A five-time medalist in the Asian Games, Roth just barely missed qualifying for the final in the 100-meter sprint in the 1972 Olympic Games. She would likely have qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final, but she withdrew from the Games after the murder of her longtime coach, Amitzur Shapira, at the hands of Palestinian terrorists (see Munich Massacre).
Roth won gold medals in 100m, 200m and 100m hurdles in the 1974 Asian Games and in 1976, became the first Israeli to enter the finals in an Olympic track event, when she finished 6th in the 100-meter hurdles.
