Esther Kim

Esther Kim is a prize winner of several international violin competitions, including the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition for Young Violinists and the International Competition for Violin and Viola - Bled, Slovenia. At the age of twelve, she was awarded by the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Bronislaw Kaper Awards as "Most Promising Musician". In March of 2004, the European Union Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) presented her with the “Art for Music Award".

Esther Kim was born in Southern California. Her passion for the violin emerged when she began studying music at the age of five. At the age of ten, she attended the Juilliard School of Music where she studied with the late Dorothy DeLay and Naoko Tanaka. After Delay’s passing, she continued her studies with Hyo Kang. At 14 years old, she entered the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria to study with Michael Frischenschlager. Esther is currently studying with Jaime Laredo at the Indiana University School of Music

Esther Kim made her first television appearance at the age of seven on the popular Fox Network television drama, Party of Five. Her first soloappearance with orchestra was at the age of eight performing the Mozart Violin Concerto. One year later, she performed Paganini’s Concerto #1 with the Claremont Symphony Orchestra. Shortly after, she performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto on an international television broadcast. She appeared as a guest soloist with the International Sejong Soloists for a New York benefit concert where Paula Zahn of CNN acted as the Master of Ceremonies. In 2003, Esther performed at the Seoul Arts Center with the Seoul Sinfonietta. She toured throughout Germany for concerts arranged by the European Union Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) in 2004. Esther performed with the Nagoya Philharmonic as a soloist performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at the Aichi Arts Theatre Concert Hall in Japan during the Aichi Expo. She was also invited to perform numerous recitals at Kioi Hall in Tokyo. In the same year, she performed several concerts in Italy, Austria, and Slovenia. Most recently, she was invited to Japan for a performance that was broadcasted on NHK television in 2006. Esther frequently performs benefit concerts with Charles Webb, Dean Emeritus of the Indiana University Music School throughout the United States.
