Estelle Axton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Estelle Axton was the co-founder (with her brother Jim Stewart) of Stax Records. Axton mortgaged her home in 1957 to raise the money to help start the soul music record label (originally called Satellite Records). She was actively involved with selecting and developing the artists on the label. She sold her interest in the company in 1968. After the non-complete agreement expired, Axton formed Fretone Records whose biggest hit, "Disco Duck" by Rick Dees was licensed for distribution to RSO Records.
Axton died in February 25, 2004 at age 85.
