[edit] Plot Summary
The Morgendorffers have just moved to the town of Lawndale. Daria and Quinn Morgendorffer are about to start their first day of school at Lawndale High. Quinn is instantly popular because her beautfiul looks and manages to keep her popularity steady by saying she's an only child.
The sisters are told that they have to take a psychological exam by the school psychologist, Mrs. Margaret Manson. It's obvious that Mrs. Manson has no idea what she's talking about, and is ticked off when Daria uses her sarcasm against her.
In Daria's history class, her teacher Mr. DeMartino asks her to define Manifest Destiny, hoping she'll get it wrong. However, she defines it perfectly.
That night, her parents get a call from school on how she has to take a special class because she has "low self-esteem."
In the class, Daria makes a friend in the artistic Jane Lane, whose taking the class a number of times because she likes having low self-esteem. With Jane's answers, the two hope to get out of the class early. But unfortunatley, their teacher, Mr. O'Neill, is so impressed with their "progress", he wants to have a school assembly for the two.
At the assembly, Jane fakes an esteem relapse and runs off the stage crying. Daria then announces that she wants to thank her sister, and repeatedly points that her sister is Quinn Morgendorffer.
Quinn is monumentally humiliated after it's revealed that her sister is a "brain", but this is just the tip of the iceberg for Daria. To make sure that her self-esteem doesn't fall, her parents let her decide how to spend the weekend. Daria manages to fulfill two dreams at once when she decides that her family spends the day at UFO convention. She's able to make both her parents suffer and her sister suffer at the same time.
