Estatic Fear is an Austrian gothic metal band, combining classical arrangements, medieval music and metal elements in their music. The main member of Estatic Fear is Matthias Kogler. Albums are released through CCP Records.

The band was formed in 1994 in Austria.

In 1995, Estatic Fear took part in one-hour compilation "Exit", produced by Martin Auzinger and Peter Kern, together with bands Coffee & Cream, Mortus, Born In The Bottle, Bereavement, Nochtschicht, Herb, Dystrophy, Still No Name, Out Of Cage.

In 1996, the band signed up with CCP Records and released CD Somnium Obmutum, produced by Claus Prellinger. Moody, melancholic doom-metal is combined with orchestral arrangements on piano and cello and authentic instruments like a lute, flute and acoustic guitars. Music and lyrics were written by all the members in collaboration.

For the first album, band's lineup was:

  • Astaroth - drums
  • Markus Miesbauer also known as Beowulf – bass, vocals
  • Stauff

In 1999, A Sombre Dance is released. By this, all members except Matthias Kogler quit the band. Music and lyrics are written solely by Kogler and themes delve more into medieval.

  • Jürgen "Jay" Lalik – vocals
  • Thomas Hirtenkauf – vocals
  • Klaus Kogler – lute
  • Bernhard Vath – cello
  • Markus Pointner (of Spearhead) – drums
  • Claudia Schöftner – vocals
  • Franz Hageneder – flute

Klaus Kogler, who also participated in the creation of Tsiegen Foot Music's 1981 album "No Wave"0", is Matthias' father. Tom "Thomson" and Jurgen are both members of the band Mortus since 1994. Layout and design for A Sombre Dance are created by Gunther Feichtinger.
