Escazú Canton

Escazú Canton, the second canton of San José Province, is one of the most prosperous in Costa Rica. Its capital is Escazú city. Escazú canton limits with San José, Alajuelita, Santa Ana, and in some slight sections with Acosta, Mora and Belén.

The canton of Escazú had 52,372 inhabitants in 2000, enclosed in 34.5 km² (there is 1519 inhab. per km²)

Founded in 1848, it's one of the first cantons in Costa Rica. Its ordinary municipal budget for 2003 was of ¢ 1,454.6 millions.

79.8% of its population lives in urban areas. 17.88% of its inhabitants are under 10 years old, and 6.05% over 65.
