Esashi, Iwate

This article is about the former city in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. There are two towns in Hokkaido Prefecture with the same name, see Esashi.
Esashi (江刺市; -shi) was a city located in Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 33,134 and a population density of 91 persons per km². The total area was 362.50 km².
The city was founded on November 3, 1958.

On February 20, 2006 the city of Esashi merged with the city of Mizusawa and the municipaltites of Maesawa, Isawa and Koromogawa from Isawa District to form the new city of Oshu.
