Es Mercadal

Es Mercadal is a municipality in northern Menorca in the Spanish Balearic Islands.

The name "Es Mercadal" derives from the Latin language Mercatum, later ipsum Mercatale, which means, "place in which a market is (usually) established". In 1301, James II of Majorca allowed the establishment of a market in Es Mercadal.
