[edit] Etymology & Spelling

Erol is also a masculine Turkish first name, and, less commonly, a surname. The spelling Errol is of English origin.

Erol's name is spelled as "Erol" in Jak II, "Errol" in Jak 3, and as "Erol" again in Daxter. Other characters have suffered the same circumstance, such as Maia Acheron, Keira Hagai, and Razer. Some fans believe that the original "Erol" spelling was a mistake and that the correct spelling is "Errol"; others believe that "Erol" is the name for his humanoid form while "Errol" is the name for his cyborg form.

Erol is first introduced in Jak II as he and other unidentified Krimzon Guards arrest Jak almost immediately following Jak's crash landing into Haven City. Two years later, it becomes evident that Erol has continued to interact with Jak on what was most likely a daily basis due to the Dark Warrior Program in which both were involved; Erol as the "experimenter," Jak as the subject. Their hostile interactions do not cease after Jak's escape from prison and carry on into Jak 3 where Erol is no longer a mere rival but one of Jak's most formidable enemies ever.

No information regarding Erol's childhood, adolescence, or other events in his life before his occupation as commander of the Krimzon Guard are explicitly revealed or even implied. His age is unknown, but he is most likely in his mid- to late 20s. He has no known relatives or parents and does not even seem to have any friends. The only friendly relationship he seems to possess is that he shares with Keira. Although the two never interact on screen, it is implied that the two indeed had a close relationship through both Keira and Erol's remarks about each other. Keira appeared to take a liking to Erol at one point, regarding him as "the best racer [she'd] ever seen" and defending him when Jak questioned his character. Erol was clearly attracted to Keira and this was the source of much rivalry between him and Jak. Baron Praxis also comments that "If you spent half as much time searching for the little brat as you spend with that mechanic girl," where he is almost certainly referring to Keira.

After losing to Jak in the NYFE Class 1 Race, Erol attempted to kill Jak by running over him with his NYFE-racer. However, Jak jumped out of the way and Erol instead slammed into a month's supply of Eco, presumably killing him. He is not seen nor heard from again until Jak 3.

In Jak 3, it is revealed that Erol actually survived the crash due to his return as a cyborg rebuilt by Krimzon Guard robot troops with only half of his face remaining from his original body. This time around, his name has been spelt a different way as "Errol" and he is now preoccupied with destroying the world and all Light Eco. He spends most of his time in the floating Krimzon Guard War Factory and frequently communicates with the ominous Dark Makers with whom he has made arrangements to attain the power necessary to do with the world what he wishes. However, his endeavors are hindered when Jak breaches the War Factory security and fights Erol resulting in the destruction of the War Factory.

[edit] Jak 3 Final Boss

Erol is the final boss of the trilogy. He descends from the orbiting Dark Maker ship in space piloting the massive Dark Maker Terraformer. In a lengthy battle involving many specific procedures, Erol is eventually defeated when the head of the Terraformer is damaged and Jak takes one last shot at the cockpit which it killed him for REAL this time when the cockpit blew up.
