[edit] User page deleted!

Okay, t'his is stange, but, as reported here, My User Page disappeared on 6 March 2006, without any mention in the History or anything- and I cannot seem to save a reverted version. - Eric 20:29, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] English

Hi. Please disambiguate English on your user page. For example, English. Thanks. RedWolf 02:53, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip. Eric 17:19, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Copyrighted text

In the future, please do not copy text directly from other websites and use it here on Wikipedia. In your recent article about suicide locations, sections were copied from pages like [1] and [2] .

  • I believe the text I took from online sources to all be fair-use compatible, but this might be a Copyright Paranoia question. Eric 17:19, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

On another note, I find the subject of that article completely improper for Wikipedia, and have blanked it out (replacing with a redirect). Please do not re-create it. -- Netoholic @ 02:10, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

  • In the future it might be more appropriate to start a discourse on the Wikipedian's Talk page before wiping out a researched article. I find this particular subject rather interesting, but I'd be willing to consider other Wikipedians' opinions on how it should be presented tastefully. Censorship is not the answer. Eric 17:19, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] 9/11 attacks article

VeryVerily just reverted out changes on the 9/11 attacks article. Rather than doing a revert myself, I just removed the word terrorist, and changed islamic back to islamist. I don't know why VV had to change it again. It seemed pretty much ok this time. Now it's a huge sentence again! --Rebroad 12:35, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] delete tags (nonsense campaign)

Eric, I had to remove the db tags from the articles that you tagged as part of the nonsense campaign. I'm afraid this does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion. You are welcome to list these articels on WP:VFD and add vfd tags to the articles instead. Cheers. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 13:27, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] John Randolph Club

No problem. Thanks for writing the initial article. - Nat Krause 14:38, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] John Hay Whitney/family

I answered your question on John Hay Whitney on my talk page. Was wondering if perhaps this John Hay Whitney/family couldn't be used to do a bio on Payne Whitney etc. and then deleted or redirected to the Whitney family. What do you think? Ted Wilkes 15:18, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

My interest in the Whitneys lies mainly with thoroughbred horse racing. If you want to do the Payne Whitney bio, then I'll do Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney. Ted Wilkes 16:38, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks, but I'm not in L.A. any more

Hi Eric:

Thanks for the invite, but I recently moved out of L.A. I'm in Silicon Valley now.

[edit] Thanks for the invitation

But I don't even live in US, I live in Brazil. Kieff | Talk June 29, 2005 01:33 (UTC)

Thanks as well, but I live on the East Coast, and couldn't even make it to the Boston meetup when I lived there. I'm sort of wondering what got me the invite; I suppose I must have contributed to an LA themed article, but I can't for the life of me think of what it was. I've only been to LA once, and I spent basically the entire time lost in traffic. Good luck though. -R. fiend 29 June 2005 02:02 (UTC)

Thanks for the invite. But I don't reside in Los Angeles. I just know a bit about it. I live about 3,000 miles away in New York City. The closest I've been to LA was playing True Crime: Streets of L.A.. Maybe if theres a New York meetup, I could make it. Just need to convince my parents that a 14 year old can go out alone.

Good Luck though! Pacific Coast Highway June 29, 2005 02:22 (UTC)

-Thanks for the invitation. I live in NYC though, but have a great time!--Jleon 29 June 2005 12:39 (UTC)

I am curious why you thought I was in or near Los Angeles. —Michael Shields 29 June 2005 23:57 (UTC)

I will help with ideas and publicity, and will try to make the meetup, but since I don't know if I'll be able to make it, I will decline the offer to help host. Thanks for the offer.BlankVerse 30 June 2005 10:29 (UTC)

[edit] LA meetup

I'd love to come, but unfortunately I'm leaving LA very soon (starting grad school in DC). Thanks for the invitation anyway. Hope you have a great time! --David Iberri | Talk June 30, 2005 16:22 (UTC)

Thanks for organizing this. I can handle the hosting duties if you are hit by a bus or abducted by aliens. However I'll assume that you've got it under control until I don't hear from you. We can also split up some tasks. Cheers, -Willmcw June 30, 2005 21:02 (UTC)

i don't live anywhere near LA - sorry :) —kate

For my part, LV could be considered "near", but kind of a long drive! Stan 3 July 2005 12:26 (UTC)
Eric are we any closer to haveing a firm venue for this meetup? Wjbean 8 July 2005 16:04 (UTC)

thank you very much for inviting me. I was not aware of it. I very well may attend, if at all possible. I live in Ventura County, which is about an hour away from LA, so driving isn't much of an issue. Deus Homoni

Thanks for hosting the meetup. I feel terrible that I couldn't come. More precisely, I couldn't come because I felt terrible. ("Stomach flu" is the polite term). Cheers, -Willmcw 19:20, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] How did you decide whom to invite to your L.A. meetup?

[edit] "User talk" bot

At the current moment, I'm undergoing to fix my other bots. I have no current time to meet your request. --AllyUnion (talk) 04:22, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

I have some time to accomodate your request. I was thinking to create a subpage of, something like: User:NotificationBot/Los Angeles Meetup where it would use maybe a redirect to a page like Wikipedia:Meetup/LA/Notification List and have a list of users for notification for the LA Meetup, and the message for the notification would be located at User:NotificationBot/Msg/Los Angeles Meetup. --AllyUnion (talk) 00:00, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Anon user on Sayyed page

Salut Eric.

Thanx for the message.

Me and User:SouthernComfort suspect that this anon user is the re-incarnation (if you will) of User:Mansour, who has been attacking not only me, but User:SouthernComfort, User:Zora, and User:SlimVirgin as well, under multiple anon covers (i.e. IP addresses). He has (and continues) to post under various names on the Afghanistan page, on Grand Ayatollah al-Shirazi and Bayazid Bastami among the other pages I recall. He sometimes uses names like Paul Chiu, and at other times, posts anonymously. I cant prove it though, But I have reason to believe that he is one editor, doing so. He is a pain in the rear, and he doesnt give up despite being warned by two admins. As they say: C'EST LA FIN DES HARICOTS.

Are you an admin? If so, I put up on WP:RM a while ago for a move of The Olympic Club to Olympic Club (as per WP:MOS). If not, can you forward this to relevant person(s)? Thank you. --fpo 01:20, August 20, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Images from the World Factbook

Hi, I found one of the images you uploaded from the CIA World Factbook. This image didn't have a license tag - all images on Wikipedia must have a license tag so other users know what they can and can't do with them. I added the appropriate tag, but for future reference there is a special tag for content from the Factbook: {{PD-USGov-CIA-WF}}. Simply add this to the description field when you upload. Thanks! David Johnson [T|C] 23:00, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Arabic script

Thanks for adding the Arabic script to List of Spanish words of Arabic origin. Please continue, it's appreciated. Also, there are many other Spanish etymology lists which will (eventually) need the same (because some of the words made a trip through Arabic on their way to Spanish). Please check in on some of these every so often and add when you can. Thanks.--Hraefen 23:41, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Neil Bush.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Neil Bush.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Longhair 16:11, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:20, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:EricShalov1.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:EricShalov1.jpg, uses a non-free license; however, it is only being used on pages outside the article namespace, which means it violates #9 of Wikipedia:Fair use#Fair use policy. Please go to its page to change its license to a free license or release it into the public domain if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Telso 06:36, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

How can I be violating the Fair use policy if I never claimed that this was a fair-use image? This is a picture of myself that I took, I uploaded, and that I only use on my own user page. Why do I have to make it GFDL if it's in the User space?

[edit] Stanley Random Chess

Eric, it seems that you want to delete this article more than most people, which puzzles me why you'd remove the {{afd1}} tag. I know you mean well, but there's a discussion about the article's deletion deletion here. Please do not remove the AfD heading in the future. Thanks! Isopropyl 14:34, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Nomination West Essex Zapatistas

I've nominated the article West Essex Zapatistas for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that West Essex Zapatistas satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/West Essex Zapatistas. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of West Essex Zapatistas during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. Wnjr 11:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vishnu sahasranama/Full prayer

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Vishnu sahasranama/Full prayer, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Vishnu sahasranama/Full prayer. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Benn Newman 04:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Mexican copyrights

I did some research on the matter a few months ago because the copyright term in Mexico got extended from 75 to 100 years. I posted my finds in the talk page of the Copyrights page. The link to the archived post is here. In the specific case of the Presidencia pages, the photographs located at [3] have been released to the public domain. There's some other Presidencia page which releases podcasts under some Creative Commons license.

Unless a specific license is stated, all content should be licensed according to current Mexican copyright law regulations (quite similar to those in the US). As far as I know there is no fair use provision, but I'd need to go over the actual law to refresh my mind. Hope this helps! Regards, -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 23:43, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and yes. The Mexican copyright law article has been in the pipeline for a while. I should get around to write it already! -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 23:45, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Rakuto Kasei

A tag has been placed on Rakuto Kasei, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 18:08, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair-use image removed from your user page

Hello, Eric Shalov. I've removed Image:New map WEB.jpg from your user page, as it is a copyrighted, unlicensed image that is being used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. This image has not been deleted from any articles. If you have any questions, please let me know. —Bkell (talk) 04:04, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
