From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eriolin Lalaithiel is an Elvish name based on the languages of J. R. R. Tolkien. As some of the roots in the name are of unkown origin, a strict English translation is difficult. "Eriol" was the primary character in Tolkien's The Book of Lost Tales and was translated by Tolkien to mean, "the one who dreams alone." "Lin" is a Quenya root meaning "song", "singing", or "music". "Lalaith" means laughter, most likely in Sindarin. The suffix "iel" can either mean "maiden of", "daughter of", or "star of". The preferred translation of "Eriolin Lalaithiel" is therefore, "Star of Laughter who Dreams and Sings alone." This title is the pen-name for a Christian female writer in the South-Eastern United States who greatly admires Tolkien and his works, as well as the works of his fellow Inklings. She is also a lover of classical music and plays violin and piano.
