Eris
Species: Vorta
Gender: female
Eye color: violet
Affiliation: Dominion
Position: Agent of the Dominion
Portrayed by: Molly Hagan

Eris is a Vorta officer on the television show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She appears only in the episode "The Jem'Hadar". In the context of the show she is an agent of the Dominion and a member of the Vorta, a race native to the Gamma Quadrant. Eris is the only Vorta seen to be capable of using telekinetic powers, although she claimed that her people had the powers. As she was being deceitful at the time, this is questioned.

She also is the first Vorta who has been seen on the show, and was discovered by an away team of Starfleet. The Dominion attempted to implant Eris into the Federation as a spy; however, she was discovered and fled.

It is interesting to note that the character's name is also that of a goddess of discord. Eris did indeed play within the narrative of the show a role of disruption, deceit and hindrance to the Deep Space Nine crew, leading to the destruction of the USS Odyssey.

Eris was portrayed by Molly Hagan. According to the Deep Space Nine Companion, the show's producers tried to bring the character back on two separate occasions, but both times Hagan was unwilling to reprise the role.

It was originally intended that the Vorta were to have telekenetic abilities, first introduced in "The Jem'Hadar" and was to be later explored within the following seasons, however the ability was dropped during the show's hiatus between Seasons 2 and 3 due to image costs and revisions by the writers and creators. It could very well be argued that only some Vorta have the capability.
