Bramhaar is noted for awarding the controversial goal to Manchester United against Lille OSC in Uefa Champions League 2007 Knockout stage. Four weeks later he officiated in an Eredivisie game between AFC Ajax and PSV Eindhoven during which he celebrated one of the 5 goals scored by Ajax in a 5-1 win. The explanation he gives for celebrating is that he was pleased with his decision to play advantage (after an Ajax player was fouled), since it resulted in a goal for Ajax.
