Equivalent dumping coefficient

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An equivalent dumping coefficient is a mathematical coefficient used in the calculation of the energy dispersed when a building moves.

When a building moves, the material it is made up of disperses viscous energy (this is especially true of concrete) or energy due to the friction among various elements. This dumping of energy must be compared to an equivalent value, for simplicity’s sake; this value is called equivalent dumping coefficient.
