Equity-indexed annuity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An equity index annuity in the United States is a type of tax-deferred annuity whose return is indexed to an equity index, typically the S&P 500 but which also guarantees a minimum interest rate (typically about 3% as of 2007) and against a loss of all or most principle. [1], [2].

Like many other types of annuities, equity-indexed annuities usually carry a surrender charge for early withdrawal.
