Equinophobia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Equinophobia is a psychological fear of Horses, derived from the Greek Phobos for Fear and Equinos for Horse. The term can also be described to people with a fear of similar hooved animals like the Pony or the Donkey.
Sufferers of Equinophobia usually experience an anxiety of approaching Horses (in some cases, any form of hooved animal such as a Donkey) in fear of being bitten, shoved or trampled on.
Equinophobics usually begin such feelings at a young age, either:
- Falling off a horse while riding
- Being bitten by a horse at a young age
- Meeting a horse for the first time that turns out to be aggressive
Even in cases where horses are relatively tame, Equinophobics will avoid any form of contact with horses or stables.
Another less common word for Equinophobia is Hippophobia.
