Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee

The Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee is the diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America that covers East Tennessee. A single Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee spanned the entire state until 1982, when the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee and the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee were formed.

The diocese of East Tennessee comprises 34 counties in East Tennessee and three counties in North Georgia, with the Cumberland Plateau as the western border. Within this area are 45 congregations and five worshiping communities servicing nearly 16,000 active members or nearly 14,000 confirmed communicants in good standing. St. John’s, Knoxville was designated the Cathedral of the newly formed Diocese of East Tennessee in 1986. Prior to the division of the diocese, the seat of the bishop was St. Mary's Cathedral in Memphis.

The Rt. Rev. Charles G. vonRosenberg is the third bishop of East Tennessee. Clergy number approximately 150, which includes those serving congregations, nonparochial and retired priests and deacons.
