Eoin Clements is a solo musician from Wicklow, Ireland. Primarily a guitarist, Eoin uses many instruments & technology in recording and live performance. His musical style encompasses alt/light rock with an emphasis on the sound evoking feelings rather than the lyrics. His work is 50/50 instrumental/lyrical. Clements was musically influenced by Nirvana, Manic Street Preachers, Muse, Pink Floyd and The Redneck Manifesto. His debut album (Eh…) is set to be released in mid 2007.

[edit] Early Life

Eoin Clements grew up in Bray, Co. Wicklow. He attended Pulse Recording College in 2002, where he studied sound engineering. He graduated with four City and Guilds distinctions. Clements began learning to play guitar at the age of 11 after his brother began to show him how to play some of their favourite songs. Prior to attending Pulse Clements began to discover the possibilities of music technology and now cites his laptop as his most valuable instrument after his guitars. Since leaving Pulse Eoin has been through a mixture of weird and wonderful jobs. He began writing and recording ‘Eh…’ in 2005 with help from Daniel Stuart. In 2006 he moved to New Zealand with a desire to finally finish the album. ‘Eh…’ was finished in April 2007 and is to be released in mid 2007.

[edit] Musical Career

Shambhala

In 2001 Eoin was invited (along with friend and long time collaborator James Keegan) to join forces with half of now defunct Dublin band, The Voide. Shambhala a five pieces band based in Dublin consisted of Clements, Keegan, Garrett Sholdice, Shane Holden and Danny Stuart (who Eoin would later collaborate with). The five piece began writing and rehearsing and eventually playing the Dublin circuit with some acclaim. Their aim was to write a new type of music, experiment at every available opportunity and to stand out in a scene they found relatively boring. In 2003 they released a three track limited edition CD. They CD gained them notice around Dublin and earned them radio slots and a constant stream of gigs.

Shambhala began to unravel in 2004 when Keegan decided to leave for New Zealand. The four remaining members continued to perform as Shambhala with Clements taking over the singing duties until a permanent replacement could be found. After many auditions over many months the decided that Keegan was too unique a singer to replace and decided to become a predominantly instrumental band with Clements singing where necessary. This line-up lasted approximately a year before Sholdice decided to leave the band to pursue his studies & other musical endeavours.

CoW

The three remaining members of Shambhala decided that phase of their career was over and formed CoW (Coalition of the Willing). They recruited multi-instrumentalists Ian Lysaght and John O’Flynn in a bid to broaden their musical horizon and allow freedom for everyone to play any instrument that would fit a song. CoW never played any gigs or made any recordings and in 2006 Clements left for New Zealand. The four remaining members continue as CoW.

Eh…

Since 2005 Clements has been working on a solo album initially entitled ‘Eh…’ as that was the first thing that came to mind. The title stuck and the album is due to be released in mid 2007. The album is entirely self-produced, written and recorded by Clements. Daniel Stuart provides extra programming on three songs (Happy As Can Be, Picking Skin and Goodbye). The album is a mix of Eoin’s current and past musical influences from soft, free instrumental jazz/rock on the opener ‘Inspired By’, to the chirpy, reassuring ‘Happy As Can Be’, to the epic ‘Goodbye’. The album tries to follow the juxtaposition of moods and feelings that people endure throughout their lives.
