Enzo Nini (San Giorgio a Cremano - Naples, 29th of August 1954) is an Saxophonist-Flautist. He currently lives and teaches in Naples and Foggia.

[edit] Artistic Biography

Having studied classical flute with Jean Claude and Laurent Masi, Nini studied saxophone with Joe Viola, Joe Allard, and Andy McGhee, and attended the Berklee College of Music of Boston.

He became leader of the "Jazz Gossip" quartet and the "Enzo Nini Rubber Band", recording CDs "Quartieri Spagnoli" (1990 Officina ed.) and "Doppio Sogno Doppio" (1997 Polo Sud ed.).

In 1995, he occupied himself with the idiomatic relationship between music and literature, composing the music for the Vittorio Russo poetry book Contrappunti in Utopia (2001 Pironti ed.) - his music can be found on the accompanying CD. He recorded "Eliot's Gossip" for the musical review FA LA UT, collaborated with Roberto De Simone writing the lyrics and music of the show "L'incanto muore senza lutti" (Festival dei Popoli del Mediterraneo Bisceglie Italy), and composed numerous concert pieces, collaborating with poets such as Edoardo Sanguineti, Ronny Someck and Muhammad Hanza Jhanien.

Nini edited[citation needed] and introduced the musical anthology Parole e Musica dal sud Italiano (Orsara Musica ed.), and contributed to the text of James Senese's biography "Je sto'cca", by the reviewer Carmine Aymone.

[edit] Extra Jazz Artistic Activities

During an intense activity in the within of Neapolitan traditional music, begun in 1979, Nini played in numerous festivals and shows exhibiting itself at Toronto, Montreal, Vienna and Berlin.

It has participated at the RAI Italian famous television channels (Domenica In, Cantagiro, Capodanno RAI 1) and radio channel (Notturno italiano, Audiobox, Radio3 Suite)) as saxophonist, composer and arranger. Composed music for theatrical productions and film scores. He participated like soloist in pop music shows participating to the Soul Brothers Band tour of Enzo Avitabile playing, in that occasion, in the amphitheater of Tunisi(1992).

He played at the “Carrefour de the Mediterraneé” in Salonicco (1991) and in the orchestra of the show “La Réve de Kokò” at the Les Halles auditorium of Paris and at the Reggia of Caserta playing Paolo di Sarcina music (1993).

Under the direction of maestro Renato Piemontese he was soloist in “Media Aetas” group for the Roberto De Simone show “Rosa del Ciel” (Palermo, 2000). Nini played in the theatral playing orchestra of Raffaele Viviani “Eden Teatro” in the 2002-2003 Roberto De Simone version, for the reopening of the Trianòn Theatre of Naples.

Enzo Nini participated to the “Premio Diaristico Pieve S.Stefano” (Pieve Santo Stefano, Arezzo 1998).

He played, composed and prepared the musical reading festival "Il suono dei poeti" for the Literary Coffee “Intra Moenia” of Naples (1998-99).

He composed and executed music for the reading concerts "Suoni e Parole da Giacomo Leopardi” at the Chiostro of S.Patrizia (Naples 1999) at the theatre “La Perla” (1999 Agnano, NA) at the “Sannino” auditorium (1999 Ponticelli, NA) in the amphitheater de "La Valle dell'Orso" to close of the celebrations of Leopardi in Campania (Torre del Graco, NA 2000).

With the show "La sagra del 99" with Eleonora Puntillo he played at Villa Campolieto (Ercolano, 1999), at the Certosa of Padula (Padula, Salerno 1999), in "Sala della Loggia" at the Maschio Angioino Castle for the festival”Marzo Donna” (NA 2000).

He wrote musics and played for the show “L’Orologio Federico” at San Giorgio a Cremano concluding the week of studies on Federico Fellini with the poet Mariano Bàino and the actor Antonello Cossia (NA 1999).

At the Arenile of Bagnoli (NA) has played, composed and prepared the poetico-musical festival “Armi Improprie” with Enzo Gragnaniello, Marcello Colasurdo, Renato Carpentieri and the lawyer Vincenzo Siniscalchi (1999).

With the poet Mariano Bàino at the Maschio Angioino has participated to the international encounter of poetry “Napoli Poesia”(2000).

He played at the “Literary Park Giordano Bruno” of Nola NA “Una poesia per Gerusalemme” interacting with the poets Muhammad Hanza Jhanien, Ronny Someck, Fausta Squatriti introduced from Roberto De Simone (2002). At the theatre Garibaldi of Bisceglie (Bari): “L’Incanto Muore Senza Lutti” - gossip for Luciano Berio with Roberto De Simone, Edoardo Sanguineti and Carmine Lubrano, music and elaboration of the text edited by Enzo Nini commissioned for the death of Luciano Berio(2003). He played his music at Maschio Angioino casle of Naple for Camillo Capolongo video show with Wanda Marasco. And for the show ”Cangiullo and Campana” with Tonino Taiuti. And “Carmina Foemine” with Wanda Marasco, Linda Santojanni and Monica Ventra.

At Galleria Morra of Naples: 20 the May, played for performance “Sfinimondo” di Nanni Balestrini with Raffaele Rizzo (2004).
