Environmental hazard

'Environmental hazard' is a generic term for any situation or state of events which poses a threat to the surrounding environment. This term incorperates topics like pollution and Natural Hazards such as storms and earthquakes.

There are five types of environmental hazards:

  1. Chemical
  2. Physical
  3. Mechanical
  4. Biological
  5. Psychosocial

The term can also refer to biological hazards; a large algal bloom is an environmental hazard because it makes the lake uninhabitable for other organisms.
