Enterprise storage
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Enterprise storage is the field of information technology focused on the storage, protection, and retrieval of data in large-scale environments (as is common in the field, the term 'enterprise' is used exclusively to mean large enterprises). It is differentiated from consumer storage in many practical ways, ranging from the size of the environment to the technologies used.
Enterprise Storage has four focus areas:
- Storage - Online random access storage and protection of data
- Backup - Offline sequential access storage for data protection
- Archiving - Offline storage of content, as opposed to data
- Disaster recovery - Protection of data from localized disasters focused on business continuity planning
