The seemingly throwaway Enslaver plotline in the War in Heaven baffles me. Evidently the Enslavers were killing off all life in the galaxy, forcing the C'tan into hibernation as their food stores dwindled. They apparently planned to return after a) all life had been expunged, b) the Enslavers died out as a result, and c) further life had a chance to evolve. If this is the case, why do the Eldar, Orks, Hrud, Jokaero etc. still exist in the current Warhammer 40,000 universe? Did they fight off the Enslavers? Surely if 'lesser' races could repel the galaxy-wide invasion, the C'tan could have mounted their own campaign to protect their food instead of going into hibernation!

Or is it that the "Warp is anathema" to the C'tan, so they were unable to find a way to kill the Enslavers, leaving it to the psychically-attuned races while they hibernated? Perhaps, but Necron armies aren't handicapped in the wargame when fighting daemons and the like. Any thoughts? 129.11.76.230 14:31, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

It is probably going to be a combination of the warp being anathema and the loss of sufficent food sources to maintain life, the C'Tan being a kind of apex predator. Grant McKenna 20:55, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
