Enoch H. Pardee

Enoch Homer Pardee (1826-1896) served as Mayor of Oakland, California from 1876 to 1878.
After immigrating to California from the Midwest during the Gold Rush, Pardee panned gold and became an eye doctor. In 1868-69, he built his own home, known today as the Pardee Home. He then pursued a vigorous public service career during the 1870s and 1880s during which he served as mayor of Oakland, state assemblyman, and state senator.
He is interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
His son, George C. Pardee served as Governor of California from 1903 to 1907.
