[edit] UPDATE
Good afternoon everyone, I am taking this time to let you know, I will not be doing any large-scale editing for the next two weeks or so, as I am working extensively on a few new pages which will hopefully become articles here at Wikipedia. This is my own quota, hold me to it if you must: I hope to accomplish the creation of 20 new articles regarding various subjects by June 2007. I'm hoping to have put in about six of them in about three weeks.
Having recently been accepted to VandalProof, I will my time on Wikipedia patrolling pages for vandalism for the next two weeks. This will enable me to work on these new articles. ONE MORE THING: I have received a couple messages on VP technique. Just letting you all know, if I make any mistakes, I am sorry, I'm still getting the hang of this software. [edit] Introduction
Greetings. I am (EnglishEfternamn (UTC)), and I am pleased to see that you have decided to visit my Wikipedia UserPage. Consider this page a work in progress, however old it gets, as that is precisely what is is. I mean, is Wikipedia itself not the same thing? Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have edited at this website since around May of 2006, and my number one concern is that Wikipedia as a whole conforms to a neutral point of view. This is why, if you have read my contributions, my editing choices consist of many reverts and disputes. It is my observation that there may be as many as 200 editors (both registered and unregistered) who wish to turn this wonderful site into a ideologised entity, reflective of Free Republic, or Lord forbid, Stormfront.org. These editors represent both sides of the political spectrum and must be stopped, for the sake of our reads, and especially those who use this website who are students. This is why, hopefully soon, I will devise a list on my page of users I and my supporters suspect to be editing for ideological reasons. Together, we can keep Wikipedia a Free but Fair Encyclopedia. Have a great day.
[edit] Universality in English-language formats
This is a characteristic I find to be important in the formation of a legitimate and effective encyclopedia. By the term "universality", I refer to sameness in editing. I believe that for this encyclopedia to work in its best form, all editors must conform to a certain level of protocol while editing. English-speaking editors must be required to use a universal form of spelling, date format, and grammer. These formats can vary from American, to English forms as we know, which is why I believe it is important that the Arbitration Committee debate which style to use, and finally implement new rules that enforce editing universality standards. I feel this is important because it helps serve to standardise the format of all content, giving the website a better feel of academic credibility.
[edit] Candidacy for Adminship
I would like to take this time to announce my plans to request Adminship. I am well aware that I will be required to answer a never-ending set of questions, as I am a fairly new user, but I am prepared to prove, through profound articulance, that I am more than fit for such a challenging postion. I ask that you, the reader, may support me in this endeavour. I will update you as this event developes.
[edit] Quizzes
I have created a couple of quizzes for your enjoyment. You can find them at GoToQuiz.com, where you can make quizzes of your own. I have made two so far, and a third is on the way. Here are the quizzes currently open for viewing:
How High-Class Are You? - This quiz rates your level of class by analyzing your cultural, fasion, and intellectual traits. Keep in mind, this quiz is highly subjective, as it judges the person by my own standard of what I view to be "high class", hence the two wrds are hyphenated and capitalised. Take the quiz
How Well Do You Know World History? Part I -Unlike the former quiz, this quiz is highly objective, testing your knowledge on various historical events in ancient, early, and middle history. It takes a true expert in history to genuinely score high in this quiz, so take a shot at it and see where you stand. Take the quiz Stay tuned for "Part II"
What is your political ideology? -This quiz determines a person's political ideology based on the answers he/she gives to various political questions. I just took it myself, but I'm not so sure I can even do that correctly, as the quiz itself is mine. My dominant result is "Social Democrat", big surpirse (in case you didn't know, I was being sarcastic). The possible ideologies one may receive are Conservatism, Liberalism, Social Democracy (which may or may not be combined with Democratic Socialism), Fascism, and Libertarianism. The last two ideologies are tricky, in my opnion, because it is often argued that neither one of them are ideologies per se, but rather, guidelines for dealing with structure and authority.
I would lie, and state the this quiz is completely objective, but any quiz that deals with politics could not possibly accomplish that end. All in all, I did my best. Take the quiz, see where you stand, and if it is not much trouble, let me know what you liked/disliked about it. Take the quiz
[edit] The Importance of Citations
This is an issue that it highly important to me, and for the sake of our readers, should be highly important to all users, admins or otherwise. I meantion this because I have come across quite a few pages that contain information on events, but carry no references. Some of these events are true, as most of us know, but even so, to match encyclopedia standards, they must carry citations. Without a strong regard for citing sources, our encyclopedia could become a haven for misinformation, this is an outcome almost all of our legitimate editors are working to prevent. So I instruct you, the editor, please request citations where they are not provided.
[edit] The Expansion of Stubs
There are a few various stubs that I plan to expand into full articles, with pictures and all. Because the expansion of Wikipedia is a collective effort, I ask for the help of anyone who can contribute to my efforts. The stubs I am currently working on are:
Test Drive 2: The Duel: UPDATE: I am pleased to anounce that I have successfully expanded this stub into a full article.
Super Strike Eagle- A SNES game surrounding the missions of a United Nations pilot.
Allow about one week for these articles to be fully expanded. I am not looking for credit, but am simply "doing my part", which is why I would be pleased if someone else "beat me to the punch" and expanded them first. In fact, if you could, please do so. Otherwise, expect our encyclopedia to have just a little more information soon. Have a wonderful evening. (EnglishEfternamn 03:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC))
[edit] Champagne Socialism Explained
Good afternoon. I am writing because as I started the new school term yesterday, my teacher of political science (which I am minoring in) asked me if I could explain to her what "Champagne Socialism" was...apparently most people have never heard of it. According to Wikipedia, Champagne Socialist is a pejoritive term that refers to people who are socialistic in their view, but "...have a deciedely capitalist lifestyle". Who decided on that wording, I don't know, I think I'll work on that article when I am done writing this. The point is, I think it is possible for one to wear the label proudly, as I do. For me, the term Champagne Socialist refers to one who is supportive of economic socialism, yet has not lost his/her appreciation for finery: in food, in music, in etiquette, etc.
That is why I say, just because we believe freedom pertains to more than the First Amendment and thus, pertains to economics, doesn't mean we cannot enjoy our BMWs, play our violins to the finest music, and eat cavier, Brie, and the best of samon "slow cooked for six hours" and "served on a mahogony plank". I mean, what is so wrong with discussing the improvement of the working class over a bottle of the most expensive wine anyway?
In my experience, the majority of people who share my political views are somewhat "hippie-like", which I find disappointing. If you share the same political views in conjunction with the same cultural tastes as me, let me know, it would be kind of neat to see there are other like me around. [edit] My username explained
A few Wikipedians have asked me what my username means. I'd like to take this time to explain. "Efternamn", if you are not familiar with the Swedish language is the term for "surname". Because I have a surname of English origin, I put together the term "EnglishEfternamn". I chose the word because while I don't have any Swedish heritage (that I know of anyway...), I have a deep interest in Swedish culture, actualy I hope to study there for a term or so, eventually. So there, that is why i chose this username which sounds rather unique.-- EnglishEfternamn talkcontribs 18:47, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
