Endoproteinase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Endoproteinases, or sometimes simply referred as proteinases, are enzymes that cut the polypeptide chain internally. In contrast, exopeptidases cut the polypeptide chain near the end of the chain to liberate one or a few amino acid residues. Endoproteinases and exopeptidases are two types of proteases.

Examples of endoproteinases are:
Trypsin
Pepsin
Lys-C
Asp-N
Glu-C

Examples of exopeptidases are:
MetAP (methionine aminopeptidase)
