Endeavour railcar (CityRail)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Endeavour is an air-condidioned DMU operating within the CityRail network designed to replace a few of the ageing 620/720 railcars from 1994. The Endeavour is based on the CountryLink Xplorer. The VLocity DMUs operating under V/Line are an evolution of the Endeavour/Xplorer structural design.
Endeavours are designed to run as two car blocks (TE,LE). Two two car blocks can be coupled together to form 4 car sets for the peak period. A 4-car Endeavour (TE-LE-LE-TE) operate the only service from Sydney to Goulburn.
There are two carriage types of the Endeavour, one having a wheelchair-accessible toilet, and the other having luggage space. Both cars have driver compartments, like other DMUs in the Cityrail Fleet.
There are 14 TE and 14 LE carriages built. They operate:
- Goulburn to Central station, and usually from Campbelltown to Moss Vale.
- Nowra to Kiama and proceeding to Dapto and Wollongong.
- Newcastle to Scone and Dungog.
TE2815/LE2865 was converted to an Xplorer.
