[edit] Wikiproject Venezuela
Good day.
I'm looking forward to create the Wikipedia:WikiProject Venezuela. I had the idea of creating it when I first made the portal. The project will have the main objective of centrating efforts into a more complete information and a higher quality of the articles in Wikipedia, other media in the sister projects, and the portal itself.
However, the rules say that I should have at least five to ten members willing to integrate and contribute to the wikiproject. So if some of you guys want to join in, then leave me a message, or in this page. I will be back in a few days to see how things are going on.
The motif of my adress is to invite you to join into the list o interested in order to improve the qualiy standars of articles relating to Venezuela and its history, subdivisions, culture, etc. If you are interested, go toWikipedia:Wikiproject/List_of_proposed_projects#Venezuela and list yourself.
Thanks.
--Alex Coiro 21:38, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- Did this project fail to get off the ground? Please let me know. I've had occasion to read through a lot of the Venezuela articles as a result of this RFA, and am hoping to find others interested in working on the content, which seems to contain a lot of bias in both directions, and too many unreliable sources. Quieres un trabajo mas ?? LOL ... I merged everything into Criticism of Hugo Chávez, but it had some pre-existing links which were not in the Harvard reference format. I put in what I could, but they aren't correctly referenced. Do you have time to look at them ? Saludos ... Sandy 03:42, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sure! --Enano275 00:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Cool - thanks ! I also found a bunch of inline references in the main article, which I cited in, but didn't know how to use Harvard style ... if you search the main Chavez article for the word "accessed", you'll find all the instances that I linked in, perhaps less than correctly ... I added what I could, but don't know how to use the Harvard style. Sandy 01:11, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Citing_sources/example_style is a good link about citing examples and different templates you can use (in case you're citing a book, newspaper, website etc.) Also, I probably won't be working on the references tonight, I will do it tomorrow. --Enano275 01:21, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Compulsory voting in Venezuela
Hola Enano, qué tal? since a few days ago you were part of the conversation in this section of the Talk:Hugo Chávez, I was wondering if you can add your view on the issue of adding the Abstention stats in the main article, taking into account what I have added recently to the discussion, namely, the "Ley Orgánica del Sufragio y Participación Política". Thank you! (Caracas1830 10:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC))
All of our work on the article has been reverted. Wikipedia:Featured article removal candidates/Hugo Chávez Sandy 23:37, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed that, strange decision, but at least the article is in a better status now. Still, the article is insanely long (99Kb) and all the stuff that has happened in the past 6 months are lost. I was busy during the past few days, that's why I stopped being involved in the discussions. I think I'm going to take a break from the political articles and focus on more relaxing and fun-to-write articles. I will go back to El Hatillo project I had been working on before the Chávez cleaning. I also would like to write about some music related stuff like Oscar D'León and Buena Vista Social Club. Anyway, I don't know if you will stay working in Hugo Chávez or not, it was fun working with you and I hope we run upon each other in future projects. --Enano275 23:26, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Enano275, I know you may no longer want to actively participate, but your vote would be valued. When you have time, can you review developments on Talk:Hugo Chávez and let us know which version you think we should move forward with, considering that either version we pick will need work? Hi - just thought I'd give you some final feedback regarding the infamous London infobox that you recommended. After a fair few disputes about the current one, we have reached some consensus about style and content and come up with User:Djr_xi/London infobox. Just thought you'd like to see the fruits of your suggestion! DJR (talk) 21:55, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Beautiful and clean design I must admit. And I think it's very smart the way you managed to place all the data without confusing readers. I hope I can help again in the future. --Enano275 22:29, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] El Hatillo
Wow. I've noticed you lately on FAC, and I just had my first look at El Hatillo Municipality, Miranda — very nice! I saw one thing I wasn't crazy about: that satellite image of Caracas isn't visually pleasing, isn't conveying anything meaningful, and probably might be better left out :-) If you're interested, I'll do a runthrough and copyedit to smooth out some of the English. I think you can FAC that baby! Let me know, Sandy 22:11, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- I just saw the peer review, and added some comments there. Very good start ! Sandy 17:08, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments, since I have seen you around WP:PR and WP:FAC, I was actually hoping that you would give me your opinions. I'm out of town, so I have limited access to a computer, but I will address each of your concerns individually later. Thank you Sandy for the great peer review, and yes, I would love your help if you don't mind.--enano (Talk) 01:37, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- You should have asked sooner: I would have gladly worked on it! If you want me to do some copyediting, and put in some inline comments about questions I have, just say so, and I'll go to work on it. Sandy 01:41, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

- I did some very minor adjustments to most of the article, but Tony and I both had a major go at copy-editing the last section. If you like what I did there, I can do more, and then start a list on the talk page of little things I've noticed. I also left some inline questions in the last section. Let me know, Sandy 04:02, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caracas
Hey Enano275 the El Hatillo Municipality article is great, have you considered expanding the rest of the Caracas municipalities? i'm not sure if there's some political context behind and i hope there isn't but it seems unfair that only Baruta, Chacao, and El Hatillo (wealthy and run by opposition mayors) have such great complete articles and municipalities such as Libertador and Sucre (poorest and run by chavistas mayors) are just stubs, which, political subjects aside, are as culturally, historically and touristically relevant as the other ones. Would you be willing to contribute to those articles? please let me know. Thanks for the great el hatillo article. --Okty 19:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. No, me contributing to El Hatillo only has nothing to do with politics, it's just that it's my home municipality and where I have lived most of my life. Also, El Hatillo is becoming more and more touristic as years pass and there's really no place in the internet where you can actually read a fully comprehensive article about El Hatillo, not only about tourism, but also regarding politics, economy, geography, etc. I will probably work in the other four municipalities in the future, but maybe not as much as El Hatillo. First I want to get El Hatillo to featured status, and then I may move on to Caracas. Maybe after that I will work on the other municipalities, but not right now. Sorry if I have disappointed you, you can contribute to the other municipalities in the mean time like User:GJRFMorelligu and User:Caracas 2000 did with Baruta. If you are interested, leave a message here and I can give you good material to start working on, if not, that's fine, I will eventually get there. Saludos. --enano (Talk) 20:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I'd love to see the material, i'll see what i can do, i'm mostly willing to take a couple of pictures if needed and translate a few spanish sources into english if someone corrects the grammar and spelling a bit after it's translated since my english isn't perfect. I reorganized and infoboxed the Caracas article btw, it was pretty much a mess visually, i think it looks kinda better now, but the text is still quite poor for a capital city as important as Caracas, the spanish wikipedia article is much better, i'll gradually start translating it. Saludos.--Okty 20:41, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Now i put the source of the article
Hello Enano, now i put the source of the Baruta Municipality article, thanks for the advertising, and we have to continue doing this kind of articles about Venezuela.

Epa, Enano - gusto en verte! I lost several hours working on the request above yours on my talk page, so I'll get on it tomorrow or later. Saludos, Sandy (Talk) 03:39, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Some notes:
(Need to say which sources) Some sources affirm that Don Baltasar's actual year of arrival to El Hatillo was 1753.(Can't source to Wikipedia - Wiki is not a reliable source - I worked around this by adding new sources - still need to trim the text to agree with sources found.) ^ Wikipedia contributors (2006). I finished reviewing the referencess that are there: next I'm going to check for citations needed, and then the prose. Do you want me to tag the article where cites are needed, or list them here? Sandy (Talk) 23:31, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

- Working from the bottom, I got up to Neighborhoods: I'll do more tomorrow. Sandy (Talk) 03:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll look at it later and see if there's a workaround: first, I need to get to a bookstore and find an English-language reference. I'm afraid the criticism is going to be that English-speaking people can't verify your references - I'll work a lot more on the article as soon as I get a break from the preparativos para las navidades. Sandy (Talk) 00:05, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll work on it as I get time - it's just that my time is a bit broken up with Christmas, so I'm not able to finish as quickly as I'd like. Hope you understand :-) Sandy (Talk) 00:17, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sheesh! My (very old) Venezuela guides don't even mention El Hatillo. I also found many references online to an International Music Festival - is that different than the Jazz festival? All the English-language sites call it the Music Festival (but they are touristy sites - not reliable sources). Have you checked the little store in Hotel El Tamanaco? They usually have touristy books which may have some basic info. Also, have you mentioned it's only 10 mi (15 km) from downtown Caracad? [1] Sandy (Talk) 01:30, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Final ce
Enano, I re-read the entire article on the plane, and made extensive notes on further copyediting needs - would you like for me to just do it, or review each item with you first? It is quite a lot. Other than copyediting, I do have some specific questions/problems I'll address:
- The demographic increase is mentioned several times in the text before it's explained - I can fix.
- There are a lot of references in the lead: I don't feel they are needed if the supporting text is referenced. Can I change those, or do you want the lead heavily referenced?
- The first time I hit the word "Baruta" is in the second paragraph of History. ... distinct parish from Baruta ... I've never understood the divisions in Venezuela - what was Baruta at that time? Another parish? We need to clarify that in the text.
- Who was Manuel Escalona? He needs more "definition" - profession, occupation, something.
- I found one citation needed: In the 16th century, the indigenous Mariches were killed by the explorers; That's the kind of "political" statement that someone may want cited.
- Number of homes in El Hatillo - the numbers seem hard to believe. Of the 18,878 homes, only 13,545 are occupied? Why so many unoccupied - mostly construction?
- During the Guipuzcoana scandal in Venezuela ... This scandal needs a definition - what was the scandal - can you give a few-word definition, or can you create an article with a wikilink?
- ... Cerro Verde, Llano Verde, Colinas, Vista El Valle, Los Olivos, and El Cigarral. Which Colinas is that? I wasn't aware of an urbanizacion named only Colinas - is that Colinas del Tamanaco?
- ... and the only place in Caracas where rock climbing is allowed. Is "allowed" the right word? Is it prohibited elsewhere? Should the word be "facilitated" or something else ?
Anyway, I'd like to do a very extensive copyedit, if you agree. Then I'd suggest a new peer review before going to FAC, in case others who are unfamiliar with El Hatillo see things we don't see. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:31, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Done
OK, I'm done. It's ready for a new peer review: you'll probably have to leave it at WP:PR for at least a month to get any decent feedback, because PR is very backed up. It might be best not to mention I've been through it, to try and encourage fresh eyes to look at it.
The following remains to be done:
- Some sort of definition of who Escalona is.
- Some sort of definition of the Guipuycoana scandal, not sure what is meant by the word "unit" with respect to the scandal.
- Temperature - I couldn't find anything.
- I don't know what this sentence means: The vegetation in most of El Hatillo is dense forests; trees occupy 30% of the surface along water bodies. Do you have the Spanish translation? The sentence is confusing.
- People may question why the unemployment and crime data is so old - that will get tricky. I think it's good enough to go ahead and run through PR now. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Yannis is a very good reviewer - let me know if you want me to address those prose changes he mentions - I can do whichever ones you want. Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] PR
Yannis asked for "more things about the relations between municipality-state-central government." Don't know if you want to use this[2] - he is the former economist for National Assembly:
- During his inauguration, President Chávez promised to abolish more than 200 mayoralties, thus "paving the way for one communal city where municipalities and mayors will not be needed, only communal power." SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Responded to each point on my talk page - by the way, you should really fill some basic info into Guipuzcoana Company. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:54, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] FAC
Looks ready. Given that Yannis and Yomangani already reviewed, you can probably close and archive the PR now. (I can add it to ArticleHistory or you can.) What is your timing? You should take it to FAC at a time when you can check in on it daily. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:48, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- "The unemployment rate in 2001 was 6.1%, ranking fourth out of twenty-one in Miranda." fourth out of twenty-one what? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:42, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- The unemployment rate in 2001 was 6.1%, ranking fourth lowest among the twenty-one municipalities in Miranda. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:59, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Epa, felicidades !!! Sorry for taking so long to respond; I've been traveling for several weeks, and had very bad internet access. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work! Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:36, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Alfredo catalan==.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Alfredo catalan==.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECU≈talk 02:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Elhatilloaerial.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Elhatilloaerial.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
