Empire of Ergoth

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the fictional world of Dragonlance, the Empire of Ergoth was a human empire based on the west of Ansalon. It was founded by Ackal Ergot, also known as Ackal I, about 2,600 years before the Cataclysm. Its capital was Daltigoth, and it was bordered by Hylo in the north, Kharolis to the southeast, and Silvanesti in the east. Also, Ergoth had a very long coastiline on the west.

[edit] History

[edit] Height of Power

About 2,500 years before the Cataclysm, Ergoth was the most powerful nation on Ansalon. Two clans had constantly feuded over rule, the Ackal and Pakin, and these clans led Ergoth into the great expansion and power it enjoyed in its earlier days. Eventually, the Quivalin Dynasty overthrew both clans and enacted a harsh rule upon Ergoth. Ergoth began a series of wars with Tarsis about Hylo, the first of which started about 2,400 years before the Cataclysm.

[edit] The Kinslayer Wars

Ergoth began a much larger war with Silvanesti between 2,200 and 2,100 years before the Cataclysm (known as the Kinslayer Wars) when it attempted expansion into their lands, which in itself resulted only in minor battles. However, when assassins thought to be Ergothian killed Sithel Silvanos, ruler of Silvanesti, the prince and now Speaker of the Stars Sithas Silvanos, declared war on the human empire. This war would eventually be lost by Ergoth, and would cost Ergoth many soldiers and national resources.

[edit] The Rose Rebellion

Some 1,800 years before the Cataclysm, the Vingaard Province saw a massive rebellion. Vinas Solamnus, future founder of the Knights of Solamnia was sent from Ergoth to end this Rose Rebellion (also known as the "War of Ice Tears," due to the harshest winter Ansalon had ever seen). However, once there, Vinas and many of his men switched sides and joined the rebels. There cause was to escape the rule of the tyrant ruler, Emann Quisling. Ergoth was eventually defeated when the rebels took the capital city of Daltigoth itself. The Emperor signed over all lands east of Thelgaard, severing much of Ergoth's power and ending their dominance. Solamnus turned these lands into the nation of Solamnia.

[edit] The Third Dragon War

Ergoth had fallen even farther by this point, approximately 1,000 years before the Cataclysm. Ergoth played a small part in the Third Dragon War, refraining from conflict until an Ergothian General met Huma Dragonbane. The forces of Ergoth marched to Vingaard Keep, and once there, fought Takhisis's armies.

[edit] Attack on Daltigoth

During the Lost Battles, Ergothian duke Serl Kar-thon entered the city of Daltigoth with the purpose of breaching the Tower of High Sorcery located there, with the full backing of the Emperor and the Istaran church. However, the wizards destroyed the Tower before the army could reach it, and this effectively killed thousands of citizens and leveled more than a quarter of the entire city.

[edit] The Cataclysm

Ergoth's last remnants of power were effectively shattered with the Cataclysm. The capital of Daltigoth became an abandoned ruin haunted by trolls and ogres, and Ergoth itself was geographically severed from the mainland, splitting into two islands, forming Northern Ergoth and Southern Ergoth.

[edit] Provinces

The Ergoth Empire consisted of these provinces: Bay Hundred, Caer Hundred, Coastal Hundred, Eastern Hundred, Great Horde Hundred, Heartland Hundred, Last Hundred, Mountain Hundred, Northern Hundred, Plains Hundred, Riverland Hundred, Seascapes Hundred, Southwest Hundred, Western Hundred

After the Cataclysm, the Empire was divided on Cristyne, Enstar, Nostar, Northern Ergoth and Southern Ergoth.
