Empire Mine State Historic Park

Empire Mine State Historic Park is a historic state park located near Grass Valley, California. According to the State Historic Parks Department, the Empire Mine is "one of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California" [1]. The mine produced 5.6 million ounces of gold before its closure in 1956.

During its operation, the Empire Mine had what was called "The Secret Room." In this room was an accurate scale model of the entire mine. What was a tightly guarded corporate secret for nearly 100 years is now one stop on the guided tour.
