Emily Thorn Vanderbilt

Emily Thorn Vanderbilt (18521946) was a member of the prominent United States Vanderbilt family.

The second daughter of William Henry Vanderbilt, Emily Thorn Vanderbilt was named after one of the daughters (Emily Almira (Vanderbilt) Thorn) of the family founders Cornelius Vanderbilt and Sophia Johnson.

She married William Douglas Sloane and they 2 daughters: Florance Adele Sloane and Emily Vanderbilt Sloane. Emily married John Henry Hammond and they had 2 children: Alice Hammond Duckworth and John H. Hammond.

Alice Hammond Duckworth married the Jazz musician Benny Goodman on March 14, 1942.
