Talk:Embedded operating system

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Windows XP is an embedded operating system? Windows CE is a real-time system? Come on!

Isn't there a desktop version and an Windows XP embedded version? I believe there is.--Jondel 00:03, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Special issue on:

Operating System Support for Embedded Real-Time Applications

Call for Papers

The rapid progress in processor and sensor technology combined with the expanding diversity of applications fields is placing enormous demands on the facilities that an embedded operating system must provide.

To offer these services, cosiderable effort has been made in research and development on innovative real-time operating systems architectures and services. Designers and developers of real-time operating systems have to consider many challenges arising from two opposite axes: efficient resource usage (processor, memory, energy, network bandwith, etc.) and dynamic configuration and adaptation (component-based development and deployment, flexible scheduling, communications, etc.).

On the other hand, open source operating system development has been recognized as a consolidated way to share experiences and as a consolidated way developments in order to improve the quality and the reusability of the products. Currently, there are several distributions for embedded systems based on Linux and other open source developments.

This special issue focuses on new results of research work and development in the field of real-time operating systems for embedded applications with special emphasis on open source developments.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

o Innovative real-time operating system architectures for embedded systems o Open components for embedded real-time applications o Innovative tecniques in:

o scheduling
o memory management
o quality of service
o communications
o energy management
o fault tolerance

o Multiprocessor embedded system support o Hypervisor systems o Hardware support for operating systems o Security o Real-time communication systems o Power aware operating systems o Open real-time Linux-based systems o Case studies of open embedded real-time operating system developments o Embedded application design

I added Symbian OS to the list, because it runs on almost all cell phones, mostly made by Nokia. Is this okay? Your Friendly Neighborhood Rocket Master 10:57, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
