This should work unmodified on any MediaWiki site. It will create a link that allows the reader to email the URL of the current page (where the template is transcluded) to a friend. It should not be added manually in article space, though a sidebar link could be interesting.

Just:

{{email}}

produces:

E-mail someone this page

{{email|Send this page to a friend}}

produces:

Send this page to a friend
