[edit] Welcome!

Hi ElTyrant, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Here are some things which might help:

Also, see Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace for things which will help when talking to anons and other vandals. Good work for marking Carlos collantes as a speedy - I've remarked is patent nonsense. Alphax τεχ 06:15, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 205.238.211.221

Errr... I didn't vandalize... (Sorry, took me a while to figure out how to work this thing...)

That's understandable; it takes everyone a little while to get used to Wikipedia. If you feel like making more tests, though, try the Sandbox, where you can experiment to your heart's content.

[edit] That VoIP spammer...

...is already blocked since 11:59 (UTC), for 24 hours. Lupo 12:06, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Oh. Good to know, as I was going to file a warning on vandalism in progress.

[edit] David Rice Atchison

Your inclusion of this man in the Unusual articles section is most welcome. It is a fascinating subject!!

However I did take the liberty of changing both the wording you used on the article, as well as the March 4 article. I think it is more likely that, for that particular day, the United States was without a president. Now that, to me, is just as amazing. So I actually put the emphasis upon the idea that, for one day of its history, the United States was without a president. I then added the Atchison bit as a related afterthought.

--One Salient Oversight 13:52, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. I first heard about Atchison on Rotten.com's library, of all places. Perhaps not as unusual as Emperor Norton, but I found it pretty odd that the US might have had a President that only a few people have probably ever heard of.

Rotten.com's rather terse entry on the man

[edit] Weird female cyclist vandal

Hi there, I added the vandal that you reverted tonight over various acts of vandalism on female atheletes to current vandalism. Looks like it's the same user over and over again, so hopefully someone will deal with it. Cheers. Anilocra 23:38, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for putting that on Long term alerts. I had added something to Current alerts, but it appears this is a long-standing problem. Tony Sidaway has blocked the offending IP addresses (there were far more than I had thought!) for twenty-four hours, but I doubt this is the end of it.

[edit] Just because you disagree with content doesn't make it vandalism

Your edits on Lavon Affair and Immigration to Israel from Arab lands constitute vandalism. User:STP

I'm not disagreeing with anyone or anything. I do have a problem with POV pushing, though. Adding unfounded claims and utilizing such a loaded lexicon is yellow journalism, and, what's worse, subverts the factuality of Wikipedia. There's certainly a controversy about the Lavon affair. There's controversy about pretty much everything involving Israel. Make a note on the disparate views of people, provide references, and move on. Don't try and construe opinions as facts. Keep your NPOV tag in place. In fact, it's a Good Thing™. Let's let the community judge this issue.

--ElTyrant 03:15, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Happy Postscript: If I'm not particularly genial, try and forgive me. I don't mean to get snippy, I'm just interested in protecting the integrity of the 'pedia.

[edit] Thank you for wasting my time (207.68.36.13)

I am not aware of any changes I have ever made to Wikipedia. It may be a better idea in the future to actually tell the people you complain to where they have made these supposed 'tests' on Wikipedia. Have an eventful day!

[edit] Thank you for wasting my time (195.93.21.4)

I too have recieved one of your messages, I had not made any changes which could promote such action, Please actually let me know what I did, so I can stop doing it in the future. Thanx 4 wasting my time.

That's astounding, especially in light of the fact that that Inter is the only one who's made comments on your talk page. If you were editing under a different IP, please tell me what it was so I can review why I did what I did if I did what I perhaps didn't do.

[edit] banning 206.131.30.1

Please do not ban 206.131.30.1.

This is a computer in the media center of a high school that has a population of over 1000 and it would greatly irk future wikipedians. i understand that someone is using this computer to vandalize wikipedia, but it would also have a negitive impact on the school if you were to ban the address. thank you, --Akako 19:42, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Articles Needing Attention

Hi! I'm going through the articles for attention list and removing user pages-as let's face it-one knows more about the user than the user themself! The pages needing attention tag is best reserved for articles that others may know about. In other words, the tag is best used on articles As for your user page, take a look around wikipedia and see what's what when it comes to user pages. Take inspiration from other pages and change yours as necessary. In my opinion though, it looks great! Thanks-and enjoy Wikipedia! KC. 18:17, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
