Eloise is the name of the main character in a series of children's books written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight.

Eloise is an ebullient six year-old girl who lives in the "room on the tippy-top floor" of the Plaza Hotel in New York with her Nanny, her pug dog Weenie, and her turtle Skipperdee. A portrait of Eloise hung in the lobby of the real-life hotel until it closed for renovations in 2005.

Thompson's god-daughter, Liza Minnelli, has been cited as a possible model for Eloise as has the author herself [1].

In 2003, two made-for-TV movies based on the characters of the books were made by Walt Disney Television, titled Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime, starring Sofia Vassilieva as Eloise and Julie Andrews as the Nanny.

In 2006, an animated television series based on the characters of the books, premiered on Starz! Kids & Family, featuring Mary Matilyn Mouser as Eloise and Lynn Redgrave as the Nanny. Walt Disney Television will acquire the television series in syndication history on both Family Channel in Canada and Disney Channel in the United States around 2008.

Also, a theatrical film based on Eloise in Paris is being developed by Nigel Cole, director of Calendar Girls and A Lot Like Love, for release in 2007 or 2008
