[edit] Early life
Ellen Muth was raised in Connecticut by her mother and optician father. As a child Ellen had various interests which included horseback riding, dance, singing, and target shooting. When she was about twelve she became interested in modelling and was eventually accepted at Ford Models. Because Ford would only use her for limited dress sizes, Ellen soon joined the Rascal's Agency and was shot for the cover, middle and back pages of a Sawgrass Mills catalogue when she was thirteen. By the time she was fourteen Ellen had decided that her career of choice was acting, this being influenced by her involvement in various school plays and the like. Ellen studied acting at the NYC Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and got her start doing commercials in 1993. From there many film and television choices followed, though she did take some time off to finish school.

[edit] Quotes
- Ever since I was a little kid, whenever my parents would have company over, I would put on shows, whether they would be magic shows, singing shows, dancing shows, little skits. I would do improv. And then I started making my own movies. I was so demanding and so aggressive with all my friends: "No, you need to be lying in this position so I can get your legs in the shot." I needed it perfectly filmed the way I envisioned it.
- "What do you really think happens after you die?" That's the question that everyone, everyone, everyone asks. And I'm so sick of it. But my true answer is, I don't know. And there's no way I'm going to find out till it happens.
- I have a lot of quirkiness in me, as it is, and I say a lot of expressions, and people will start cracking up, like, "Where did that come from?" And I have no idea. It's just part of my brain that makes up these things, and they come out.
- In high school, I observed a lot. I was very open-minded. There were many cliques in high school and I had connections with each group. I almost played the role of psychiatrist, just to know what was going on with people.
