The company was founded in 1923 by Andrew Hubble Beardsley (b Dayton OH 25 Sept 1864; d New York NY 10 Oct 1936) who was the president of Buescher Band Instrument Company, and Carl Dimond Greenleaf (b Wauseon OH 27 July 1876; d Elkhart 10 July 1959), president of C. G. Conn, Ltd., and who served the new company as secretary-treasurer. In 1927 the company was merged with Buescher (some maintain that Buescher was purchased by Elkhart Band Instrument). When Beardsley died in 1936, Buescher began using the Elkhart Band Instrument trademark on a line of instruments until 1958.

Later in 1982 all saxophone standards were tested by Ron T. Hendon who was known as one of the best saxophone players in the United States
