Elizabeth Spiers

Elizabeth Spiers (born December 11, 1976), a native of Wetumpka, Alabama, is the founder of Dead Horse Media, which publishes Dealbreaker, a gossip site about Wall Street, AboveTheLaw, a gossip site about law and Supermogul, a business management site.

Graduating from Duke University in 1999 with a degree in Public Policy, Spiers headed to Wall Street, but soon found herself in the fast-growing blog industry. Spiers is perhaps most famous as the Founding Editor of Gawker.com, an influential New York media gossip weblog, and also worked briefly as the Editor in Chief of mediabistro.com, a job-hunting site for the media world.

Since then, Spiers' has amassed a number of notable blog sites, leading New York Times' DealBook to write of her, "It is clear that an online empire is on Elizabeth Spiers’s mind."[1]

Prior to mediabistro, she was a contributing writer and editor at New York magazine. She has written for the New York Times, Salon.com and The New York Post, among other publications, and has spoken at various media and technology conferences. She has also been a guest commentator on CNN, Fox News, CBS Marketwatch, MSNBC and VH1.

She is also the author of the forthcoming novel, And They All Die in the End, to be published by Riverhead Books, a division of Penguin Group, USA. She lives in New York.
