Elizabeth Coatsworth

Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth (May 31, 1893 – August 31, 1986) was an American author[1]. Born in Buffalo, New York, she graduated from Vassar College in 1915 and received a Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1916. She traveled extensively. In 1929, she married writer Henry Beston. She died at her home in Nobleboro Maine[2].
Coatsworth wrote poetry, short stories, novels, and children's books. In 1931, her book The Cat Who Went to Heaven won the Newbery Medal[3].
