Elizabeth Alexander (actress)

Elizabeth Alexander (born 21 August 1952 in Adelaide, South Australia) is an actress with a number of high profile credits in film, television and theatre. She is sometimes credited as Liz Alexander.

Her film work includes: The Journalist, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, The Killing of Angel Street and Summerfield.

On television, she is best known for her current recurring role as Dr. Alison Newell on the medical drama All Saints. Previous credits include: Seven Little Australians, Chopper Squad, Special Squad, Time Trax, Murder Call and Farscape. She graduated from NIDA in the 70s and went straight into her first role of Esther Wolcott in Seven Little Australians, for which she won a Logies Award for Best New Talent.

Among her theatre credits are Hermione in The Winter's Tale, Martha in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Kate in Harold Pinter's Old Times, another STC production, and many more. She also played Margaret Mead in the controversial David Williamson play Heretic. The play, based on the life of anthropologist Margaret Mead, was the subject of much debate due to a very public row between the writer, Williamson, and the director Wayne Harrison over the plays production.

She lives in Sydney with husband, and Play School actor, George Spartels and their two daughters.
