Elisir is an album by Italian singer-songwriter Roberto Vecchioni.
Tha albums starts with the ballads "Un uomo navigato" ("An experienced man") and "Velazquez", in which the theme of sea voyages is a trick to speak of political dreams and disappointments, history, the sadness of life and the role of creativity.
The albumn is full of references to real characters from literature and Italian music or politics. "A.R." is inspired to Arthur Rimbaud's life, containing some of his verses. References to Italian characters include former prime minister Amintore Fanfani ("Pani & pesci"), singer-songwriters Francesco De Gregori ("Il suonatore stanco", "the tired musician"), Francesco Guccini ("Canzone per Francesco") and Fabrizio De André ("Le belle compagnie").
"Figlia" is ranked among Vecchioni's best songs, with an essential guitar melody accompanying autobiographical themes about his relationships with his daughter and the role of parent.
