Eli El-Chantiry

Eli El-Chantiry (born 1957) is an Ottawa City Councillor.
He was born in Lebanon in 1957 and moved to Canada with his family at age eighteen to escape the violence there. He became a prosperous businessman, owning the Lighthouse Restaurant in Constance Bay in West Carleton.
A prominent local citizen, he ran for city council in the 2003 Ottawa election to replace retiring Dwight Eastman. The election turned out to be extremely close between El-Chantiry and retired schoolteacher Adele Muldoon. In the end, El-Chantiry defeated Muldoon by only twenty-nine votes.
According to the Ottawa Sun (October 1st, 2006), El-Chantiry is a Liberal.
