Electoral district of Allowrie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Allowrie was a former electoral district for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1904 to 1920. Its name appears to be Aboriginal, meaning "pleasant place near the sea" or "high place near the sea"[1] and may be the the source of the name Illawarra. Its only member was Mark Fairlies Morton, who held it for the Liberal and the Nationalist Parties.

Allowrie replaced Shoalhaven and part of Moruya. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into Wollondilly, along with Wollongong.
