[edit] Taxonomy
Pantherophis is not recognized by ITIS, which currently represents the most authoritative taxonomy available for snakes. The folks who suggested Pantherophis may or may not be correct in saying that this groups deserves to be reclassified, but even if they are there's no guarantee that this name will be accepted. It's therefore safer to follow ITIS and let the experts argue about what to do with this issue. Furthermore, this taxonomic discussion is a bit long and really applies to the entire genus -- not just E. obsoleta, so I suggest it be summarized and added to a new article, Elaphe (currently only a redirect). --Jwinius 11:03, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
