El Ferrol Diario was a Galician newspaper founded in Ferrol sometime in the late 1950s and very early 1960s [1] but it didn't make it through the turbulent and difficult years of the early 1980s [2] which where marked with a huge recession in the shipbuilding sector affecting Ferrol considerably. The 1980s Ferrol suffered a terrible impact, losing over 40% of the local industries during a very controversial time marked by the advent of a new political system in Spain and the arrival of democracy [3]. Ultimately, Ferrol lost the title of El Ferrol del Caudillo and its most important newspaper El Ferrol Diario. It should be noted too, in these lines that about the same time El Correo Gallego[4], a well established Ferrol newspaper, and one of the oldest newspapers in the Iberian Peninsula was moved to the capital of Galicia when the newly created Galician Government was created in the early 1980s.
