Eindhoven Marathon

The Eindhoven Marathon is an annual marathon race over the classic distance of 42km and 195 metres held in the city of Eindhoven, The Netherlands in October. It is an annual race since 1990, after the event was a bi-annual contest for eight years. The first two editions took place in 1959 and 1960, under the name of “Lichtstad Marathon” (Light City Marathon). Just men were invited to run.

The marathon was re-established in 1982, when the city of Eindhoven celebrated its 750th anniversary. From 1997 to 2000 the run in the province of Noord-Brabant also served as the Dutch National Marathon Championship, with Luc Krotwaar winning it four times in a row in the men's competition. In the 1999 edition the Dutch/Russian runner Nadezhda Wijenberg qualified in Eindhoven for the 2000 Summer Olympics, clocking 2:28:45.

The Eindhoven Marathon is the third biggest marathon contest in the Netherlands, after the Rotterdam and Amsterdam Marathon.
