Eileen Fisher

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eileen Fisher is an American women's retail clothing designer. Her clothing is known for simplicity, durability, and for comfortable, loose-fitting pieces that suit middle-aged women who do not correspond to the fashion world's ideal of youthful, slender bodies. In fact, Eileen Fisher uses non-traditional models in print advertisements, including employees of the company.

Begun in 1984, the company now consists of 25 retail stores in eleven states.[1] Recently, Eileen Fisher, Inc. donated over $100,000 to various charities specifically focusing on improving the life of women "in the areas of wellness, financial independence, self-esteem and prevention of violence."[2]

Eileen Fisher grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois, attended the University of Illinois[1], and moved to New York City in 1973. She worked as an interior designer and as a graphic artist. In 1984, she established her clothing business.[3] She has two children and lives in Irvington, New York.
